Counterfeiting down, but not all Canadians like the new plastic money





The Bank of Canada has unveiled the latest bills in its new polymer note series, the $5 and $10 denominations, a move that comes as it highlights progress made in the fight against counterfeit currency.
The new $5 note features images of Canadarm2 and Dextre — robotic contraptions that help to build and maintain the International Space Station.The new $10 note features an image of a Via Rail train journeying through the Rocky Mountains. Canadians have complained that the new notes stick together  and can melt. this relates to Law 12 because it talks about Counterfeiting, and About the Law and protection.

Banning assisted suicide akin to 'torture,' B.C. Appeal Court hears


        A lawyer for plaintiffs in a landmark court challenge of Canada's assisted suicide law says stopping suffering patients from asking for a doctor's help to end their lives is akin to torture. Joseph Arvay, a lawyer representing a number of plaintiffs in the case, says the current law forces patients with terminal illnesses to end their lives early, because they know they won't be able to seek a doctor's help if they become too debilitated later. this relates to law 12 because it talks about the plaintiffs that we learnt in law 12.

the   keystone – The Keystone XL pipeline may be one step closer to being built, but new emphasis is being placed on rail transport of oil as an alternative. While U.S. research suggests pipelines are safer, both methods come with their own set of risks. this relates to law 12 because its about dealing with the law, and if its safe for the people.

Federal Court grants rights to Métis, non-status Indians

                  

                   On Tuesday, the federal court ruled that 200,000 metis and 400,000 non-status Indians were indeed Indians under the constitutional act , and fall into federal jurisdiction. the recognition of Metis and non-Indians are under the section 91(24) accord further respect and reconciliation by removing the constitutional of the group. non-status or Métis people is that for years they have been told they were a provincial responsibility, only to have the provinces tell them they were the purview of the federal government.


 the article relates to law 12 because its explains about the federal government and also about freedom of expression especially on the metis and non-Indians.

Ian Mulgrew: B.C.’s civil forfeiture law is flawed



Frank Albert Wolff was caught speeding with a stash of marijuana in his pickup truck. the government seized his $52,000 Dodge Ram under the civil forfeiture law, which came into effect after he was charged. the first case to be heard by the B.C. Court of Appeal, three justices unanimously agreed the act aimed at taking the profit out of “unlawful activity” was “wide in scope and firm in its application.” this relates to law 12  because it shows and talks about how this case needed go all the way to the Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court.

Chinese mining firm launches rights complaint, threatens feds with lawsuit




 
The Chinese mining firm at the Centre have a controversial plan to use temporary foreign workers in a British Columbia coal mine that launched a two-pronged attack, threatening both a human rights complaint and legal action. How it relates to Law 12 because it involves human rights, legal actions.
